Tip of the Month

Tip of the Month

The new year is always a time for making resolutions and planning for the future.  As you say goodbye to 2016 and plan for 2017, don’t forget to evaluate your safety and security.  As you do so, reflect on the following questions:

Do you watch for danger when you leave your home or are you complacent?  Everybody has seen internet videos of people in public not paying attention.  Often times their eyes are glued to their phones and they are oblivious to the world around them.  What happens next varies, but often times the person encounters an obstacle and an embarrassing moment ensues.  Of course phones and embarrassing moments are only one example.  Distractions and dangers are countless, so pay attention.  While nobody should be paranoid all of the time about danger around them, everybody should have a heightened sense of awareness when they are in public.

Are you and your property secure?  Wolfforth is a safe community, but crime knows no boundaries.  One of the biggest types of crimes we see are property crimes, specifically thefts.  Make sure you lock your home and its curtilage.  This means making sure any outbuildings and gates have locks in addition to your house.  Vehicles should be locked or parked in a garage.  Valuables should not be left outside or in your vehicles.  Securing your property cannot be stressed enough.  If every citizen in Wolfforth were to secure all of their property, we would see a sizable reduction in the overall crimes in our community.

Do you keep emergency items ready for use if needed?  This question has many applications.  As it relates to crime, do you have what you need to avoid being a victim?  Is your phone charged and with you in the event you have to call 911?  Have you heightened your sense of awareness so you know where you are and can more readily avoid danger?  Have you prepared yourself with knowledge so that you know what to do in the event of an emergency?

As always, the Wolfforth Police Department appreciates all of the support we receive from the community.  If you ever have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at 806-855-4160.  We wish everybody the best in 2017.
